Technical Buyer | Engineering | Coleford, Gloucestershire | 1 day WFH per week

Your new company

We are currently supporting an engineering and manufacturing organisation to recruit two Technical Buyers after internal promotions. With a strong focus on innovation, quality, and operational efficiency, this company offers a dynamic environment where procurement plays a strategic role in driving performance and value.

Your new role

As a Technical Buyer, you’ll be responsible for the strategic sourcing of engineered parts (electronics, panels, fabricated parts etc.), raw materials (metals, plastics, rubber) and services for the production of goods. You'll manage the end-to-end procurement process, ensuring a cost-effective and risk-adverse approach is taken to supplier sourcing and contract negotiation to achieve long-term value creation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage cradle-to-grave procurement for a wide range of engineering commodities
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for defined categories
  • Source, evaluate and onboard new suppliers inline with engineering needs
  • Lead commercial negotiation for contractual agreements with new and existing suppliers
  • Implement supplier performance controls such as scorecards / KPIs and business reviews
  • Work closely with engineers to define specifications, drawings and make-vs-buy decisions to optimise commercial value
  • Support NPI and project-based procurement on a case-by-case basis
  • Review supplier risks, price variation or quality issues to the Procurement Manager with recommendations for resolutions
  • Support contract renewals through negotiation, influencing and potential new routes to markets such as dual sourcing or change processes

What you'll need to succeed

  • 3–6 years’ experience in a procurement role within a manufacturing or engineering setting

  • Strong understanding of technical components, engineering drawings, and manufacturing processes

  • Proficiency in SAP (MM or P2P modules) with excellent data accuracy

  • Proven ability to manage both operational tasks and strategic sourcing projects

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and supplier relationship management skills

  • A proactive, analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement

  • CIPS qualification (or working towards) is desirable

What you'll get in return

  • A competitive salary (get in touch for details)

  • Hybrid working (one day home working per week)

  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays

  • Pension, life assurance, private health care, cycle to work & wider benefits
