Role Overview

We're seeking a hands-on Data Engineer & BI Developer to join a major transformation programme. This role combines data-engineering and BI Development - you'll design and optimise data pipelines in Azure/Databricks, build robust data models and deliver advanced reporting in Power BI. You'll also play a key role in migrating legacy Cognos and DWH estates to the Microsoft stack.

Responsibilities

Data Engineering
  • Build and maintain data pipelines and Lakehouse architecture in Databricks.
  • Optimise data performance (indexing, partitioning) and troubleshoot complex queries.
  • Automate source data integration for efficiency and scalability.
BI Development
  • Design and deploy Power BI Solutions (including Paginated resources)
  • Develop semantic models, measures, KPIs and CDE's for accurate reporting.
  • Reverse-engineer Cognos logic and implement equivalent solutions in Power BI

Programme Contribution

  • Support the Data Programme's strategic Azure solution design.
  • Refresh and improve Regulatory MI Dashboards
  • Provide cover for Finance and controlling MI reporting as needed.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven experience in MS Azure Cloud Dev/Ops, Data design and Databricks lakehouse architecture.
  • Advanced skills in Power BI (Desktop, Service, Paginated) and SQL (including SSIS)
  • Strong understanding of data modelling (star schema, Medallion architecture) and ETL frameworks
  • Ability to work with ambiguous data sources and deliver solutions in low-maturity data environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Performance Tuning and optimisation techniques.

What you'll get in return

  • 6-Month contract with view to extending

  • £450 per day rate

  • Hybrid working pattern with 3 days on-site at Milton Keynes and 2 days working from home
