Temporary SEN Teaching Assistant – Autism Support (KS1)
Location: Birkenhead
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team supporting two children in Year 1 with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This role is part of a structured TA team, providing consistent support across the day through a rotation system. The focus is on communication, emotional regulation, and creating a safe, structured environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support a verbal child with social, emotional, and sensory needs using visual timetables and structured routines.
• Assist a child with high sensory needs and emerging verbal communication using total communication strategies.
• Deliver SALT programmes and emotional regulation activities.
• Work collaboratively with other TAs and staff to ensure continuity and progress.
• Maintain a safe and nurturing environment tailored to individual needs.
Requirements:
• Previous experience supporting children with autism in a primary setting.
• Confidence in using visual supports, Now/Next routines, and sensory strategies.
• Ability to provide close supervision and manage transitions effectively.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Calm, patient, and flexible approach to learning support.
