We are seeking a dedicated, organised, and proactive Attendance Officer to join a thriving school in Newcastle on a full-time maternity cover contract from September 2026 until July 2027.
This is a key role within the school, supporting the attendance and safeguarding team to ensure excellent attendance and punctuality across the student body. The successful candidate will play a vital part in promoting positive attendance, working closely with pupils, parents, staff, and external agencies.
The Role
Key responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality across the school.
- Following up on pupil absences and maintaining accurate attendance records.
- Identifying attendance concerns and implementing early intervention strategies.
- Liaising with parents, carers, and external agencies regarding attendance matters.
- Producing attendance reports for senior leaders and pastoral teams.
- Supporting the school's safeguarding and welfare procedures.
- Working with pupils and families to improve attendance outcomes.
- Ensuring compliance with attendance regulations and school policies.
- Providing administrative support related to attendance and pupil welfare.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will:
- Have previous experience working within a school, education, or administrative environment.
- Demonstrate excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Be confident dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
- Have the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families, and staff.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office and school management systems such as SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom.
- Show a commitment to supporting pupils' wellbeing, attendance, and achievement.
