School Attendance Officer Required in Wigan - September Start

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive School Attendance Officer to join Hays and work within a vibrant and inclusive high school based in the Wigan area. This is a vital role, focused on promoting excellent attendance and reducing persistent absence across the school community.

As the School Attendance Officer, you will work closely with students, families, and staff to monitor attendance data, identify concerns, and implement effective strategies to support improved attendance and engagement.

This is a temporary position on a full-time, term-time-only basis, starting in September 2025.

Your new role

  • Monitoring and analysing daily attendance data, identifying patterns and concerns

  • Navigating Arbor’s attendance module, including inputting marks, checking for missing marks, running reports, and managing communication logs

  • Checking voicemail and absence messages, following up with text/email alerts, and generating attendance letters

  • Liaising with external agencies where necessary

  • Supporting the school’s safeguarding procedures and maintaining accurate records

  • Overseeing pupils at Pastoral Reception, including managing appointments, administering First Aid and medication, issuing lunch passes, and providing general support

  • Promoting a positive attendance culture across the school

What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous experience in an attendance, pastoral, or safeguarding role (ideally within a school setting)

  • Experience of working with Arbor

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with families

  • Excellent organisational and data management skills

  • A good understanding of attendance legislation and safeguarding practices

  • A proactive, empathetic, and solution-focused approach
