Attendance Officer | High school in Wigan | Start ASAP | Temp to Perm Opportunity | Competitive Hourly Rates

Your new company

Hays Education are working in partnership with a well-established and supportive secondary school in the Wigan area to recruit a dedicated and proactive Attendance Officer to join their pastoral team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact on student outcomes, with the role available to start immediately and offering the potential to become a permanent position for the right candidate.

Your new role

As an Attendance Officer, you will play a key role in promoting excellent attendance and punctuality across the school, working closely with students, parents, and staff to identify and overcome barriers to regular attendance. You will be responsible for monitoring daily attendance data, analysing trends, and implementing effective intervention strategies to improve overall attendance levels. The role will involve maintaining accurate attendance records using the school’s management information system, following up on unexplained absences promptly, and ensuring all safeguarding and attendance procedures are adhered to in line with statutory requirements.

You will liaise regularly with parents and carers, building positive relationships while addressing attendance concerns in a professional and solution-focused manner. This will include conducting attendance meetings, supporting home visits where required, and working collaboratively with external agencies such as education welfare officers. In addition, you will support the wider pastoral team by contributing to initiatives that promote student engagement, wellbeing, and inclusion, ensuring that all pupils are supported to achieve their full potential.

What you'll need to succeed

The successful candidate will have previous experience working in a school or similar environment, with a strong understanding of attendance processes and the importance of safeguarding. You will be highly organised, resilient, and confident in communicating with a wide range of stakeholders. A keen eye for detail, the ability to work independently, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential in this fast-paced and rewarding role.

What you'll get in return

In return, you will benefit from working with Hays, a market-leading recruitment agency with a proven track record in education. You will receive ongoing support from a dedicated consultant, competitive rates of pay, and access to a wide network of opportunities across the region. This role offers an excellent pathway for candidates seeking long-term stability, with the potential for a permanent appointment for the right individual.
