Interim School Business Manager Required - Preston - Part Time

We are seeking a Temporary School Business Manager to join Hays and the senior leadership team of our dynamic and inclusive school based in the Preston area. This is a key role, offering the opportunity to influence strategic decision-making and ensure the school’s financial and operational sustainability.

As a School Business Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the strategic leadership of the school, working closely with the Headteacher and Governors. You will lead on all aspects of financial planning and management, ensuring the school makes the most effective use of its resources to support teaching and learning.

This is initially a temporary position, but could become permanent for the right person. You will need to be available 3–4 days a week from September 2025.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Financial Leadership – Lead the development, monitoring, and reporting of the school’s budget. Provide high-level financial advice to the Headteacher and Governors, ensuring long-term financial sustainability and value for money.
  • Financial Compliance and Risk Management – Ensure robust financial controls are in place and that the school complies with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Human Resources – Oversee recruitment, staff development, and HR compliance, including maintaining the Single Central Record.
  • Facilities and Site Management – Ensure the school site is safe, secure, and well-maintained, working closely with the site team.
  • Administration and ICT – Lead the administration team and ensure ICT systems support the school’s strategic goals.
  • Procurement and Contracts – Oversee procurement processes, manage contracts, and ensure effective asset management.
  • Community Engagement – Promote the school’s profile and reputation within the local community.

What We’re Looking For

  • A relevant qualification in business or financial management, or equivalent senior-level experience.
  • Proven experience in strategic financial planning and budget management.
  • Experience working in a school or education setting.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • A proactive, flexible, and resilient approach.
