Hays are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Interim Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of capital works projects across our client's university estate. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to meaningful infrastructure improvements in a dynamic academic environment.
You will assist in managing multiple small-scale capital projects (up to £100,000 in value), ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Your new role
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of capital works projects across the university’s campuses.
- Assist in procurement, contractor management, and stakeholder engagement.
- Monitor project progress, budgets, and timelines, reporting regularly to senior project managers.
- Ensure compliance with university policies, health & safety regulations, and statutory requirements.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and contribute to post-project reviews.
- Experience in project management, ideally within the built environment or higher education sector.
- Familiarity with capital works, refurbishment, or minor construction projects.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal departments, consultants, and contractors.
- Working knowledge of project management tools and reporting systems.
Desirable requirements
- Relevant qualifications in project management or construction (e.g., PRINCE2, APM, RICS, CIOB).
- Understanding of sustainability and accessibility considerations in capital projects.
