We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Interim Assistant Headteacher to join a well-established Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Birmingham from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proven senior leader who is passionate about improving outcomes for pupils with additional needs and has a strong track record of leading within a specialist educational environment.

As Interim Assistant Headteacher, you will work closely with the Headteacher and wider leadership team to drive school improvement, support teaching and learning, and ensure the highest standards of provision for pupils with complex needs.
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the school.
  • Leading teaching, learning and curriculum development.
  • Driving improvements in pupil progress, behaviour and attendance.
  • Coaching and developing teaching and support staff.
  • Maintaining high standards of safeguarding, inclusion and pupil welfare.
  • Working collaboratively with parents, external agencies and multidisciplinary teams.

To be considered for this role, you must have:
✅ Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
✅ Previous experience in a senior leadership role within an SEN setting
✅ A strong understanding of SEND legislation and best practice
✅ Proven experience of improving outcomes for pupils with additional needs
✅ Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills

Desirable:
  • Experience working with primary-aged pupils.
  • Experience supporting pupils with complex learning difficulties, autism and/or social, emotional and mental health needs.
