Your new company

Your new company are a leader in their field based in Stoke-on-Trent and are looking for an Assistant Financial Controller to join their team on a 12 month fixed term basis, with potential to go permanent.


Your new role

In this Assistant Financial Controller role, you will manage core financial activities including forecasting, budgeting, month‑end accounts, audit support, and maintaining accurate management models and balance sheet reconciliations. You will lead a small finance team and work closely with colleagues across multiple divisions to provide high‑quality financial insight that supports strategic decision‑making and wider business growth.

  • Work closely with the Financial Controller to produce management information, including detailed financial statements, performance summaries, and variance commentary.
  • Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights that support decision‑making across the business.
  • Serve as a trusted finance partner to leaders within the business unit, offering guidance and commercial support.
  • Coordinate year‑end processes, ensuring that reporting, controls, and statutory requirements are fully met.
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly accounts, budget cycles, and forecasting activities, maintaining high standards of accuracy and timeliness.
  • Deliver regular KPI reports and undertake bespoke financial analysis requested by senior management.
  • Prepare and submit cash flow projections and contribute to the annual budgeting process.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, providing required documentation and supporting audit activities.
  • Evaluate financial risks and review proposals for new initiatives, product launches, and capital investments.
  • Lead and mentor a small finance team, conducting performance discussions and supporting professional development.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment

  • CIMA or ACCA qualified

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and management accounts

  • Advanced Excel skills

  • Experience using SAP

  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail

  • Able to work independently and collaboratively

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Confident working with senior stakeholders

  • Experience leading and developing a team

  • Professional, adaptable, and comfortable taking on new challenges
