Assistant Accountant Job - Temp to Perm

Hays is working with an established and growing organisation who are looking for an Assistant Accountant on a temporary to permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated finance professional to join a supportive team, gain broad exposure across the finance function, and play a key role in day-to-day accounting operations, reporting, and compliance, with the longer-term prospect of securing a permanent position.

Your new role


The Assistant Accountant supports the finance function by preparing financial records, assisting with month‑end processes, and ensuring accurate accounting and compliance. The role contributes to timely reporting, reconciliations, and the continuous improvement of financial controls.

  • Purchase Ledger: Assisting with the processing of supplier invoices, reconciling supplier accounts, and liaising with suppliers to ensure invoices are paid in a timely manner

  • Sales Ledger / Credit Control: Assisting with the preparation of sales invoices to customers, completing daily bank reconciliations, and chasing overdue customer debts

  • Management Accounts: Supporting the Head of Finance with the preparation of management accounts and subsequent reports, which are circulated to internal management to support decision‑making.

  • Treasury: Assisting with generating and making supplier payments, as well as updating cashflow forecasts to reflect customer and supplier transactions.

  • Forecasting: Assisting with longer‑term cashflow forecasting and project‑related income forecasting.

  • Statutory: Ensuring compliance with HMRC, Companies House, National Statistics, year‑end audits, and group reporting requirements.


What you'll need to succeed


  • Strong understanding of accounting principles.

  • Advanced or intermediate skills in Excel (e.g. formulas, pivot tables)

  • Ability to analyse financial data and resolve discrepancies.

  • The successful candidate will have high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • This role may require deputising for the Head of Finance. The successful candidate will have good communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Proactive, problem solving skills, analytical and eager to learn.

  • Qualified or Part Qualifies Accountant (either CIMA or ACCA or equivalent)
