Indirect Tax and VAT Accountant required for a leading energy distribution business in Warrington

Your new company

This is a well-known and highly regarded fuel and energy distribution business with an extensive operation across the UK. The business are leaders within their field and have strong ambitions to reduce carbon output and contribute to a zero-emission future. This role is part of a large finance and tax team, offering great support from the Head of Tax to progress further in your career. This role is based in Warrington on a hybrid basis.


Your new role

As an Indirect Tax Accountant, you will be required to take a lead on all aspects of VAT and Indirect Taxes for the business, with plenty of support available and training provided. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Be responsible for indirect tax compliance obligations, including excise and custom duties.
  • Preparation and submission of indirect tax returns, including monthly returns and group subsidiary returns.
  • Provide advice and training (when required) to the business on new legislation and guidance from HMRC.
  • Identify tax risks in respect of indirect taxes and duties and escalating any issues identified when required
  • Suggest system and technological improvements when possible to streamline existing processes.


What you'll need to succeed

In order to be considered for this role, you will ideally be a qualified accountant having trained at a highly regarded firm in the UK, although part-qualified accountants with indirect tax experience would be considered too. You will be confident when presenting and speaking about ideas and new legislation with stakeholders, and ideally have a good knowledge of tax technology and office systems such as excel.
