Permanent Assistant Accountant job with a well established company in Manchester city centre.
As an Assistant Accountant, you’ll work closely with the Finance Manager across monthly reporting, reconciliations, financial administration/transactional processing, and compliance. You’ll gain experience across the full finance function and have the chance to take ownership of key processes as you develop.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
- Assist with bank reconciliations and cashflow tracking
- Own balance sheet reconciliations across the UK and Australia
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate journal postings
- Support month‑end and year‑end closing activities
- Support payroll processing
Administrative & Support
- Liaise with suppliers, clients, and internal teams to resolve queries
- Assist the Finance Manager with ad hoc tasks and projects
- Contribute to improvements in finance processes and efficiency
Compliance & Controls
- Support preparation of VAT returns and statutory reporting
- Maintain strong audit trails and accurate financial documentation
- Ensure adherence to internal financial controls and policies
Skills & Experience
You will already have a proven track record of processing accounts payable/accounts receivable invoices as well as bank reconciliation and resolving customer and supplier queries. Studying AAT or in the very early stages of ACCA/CIMA is desirable but not essential, as hands-on experience in daily account processing is key. Ideally, you will also have supported in monthly accounts preparation with exposure/understanding of journals and accruals/prepayments. Strong Excel, attention to detail and being organised are key attributes to possess, along with being an effective communicator when liaising with internal and external contacts. Any experience in WIP or project related work would be an advantage.
