Assistant Accountant – 12‑Month Contract (Maternity Cover)

A highly successful global organisation with a strong local presence in Ayrshire is seeking an ambitious Assistant Accountant to join its close-knit finance team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract covering maternity leave. You’ll be part of a supportive team of six, working closely with an experienced Finance Director who is committed to mentorship and professional development.
Your new role
As Assistant Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting month end close and ensuring financial accuracy across a range of accounting activities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is part‑qualified or planning to begin their professional studies (ACCA, CIMA or similar), and who is eager to advance their skills within a dynamic international environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and posting of journals as part of the month end close process
- Support the preparation of management accounts and financial reporting packs
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances
- Work across accounts payable and accounts receivable, helping to clear aged items and streamline processes
- Assist with accruals, prepayments, and general ledger maintenance
- Support internal and external audit requirements
- Contribute to process improvements and strengthen financial controls
- Collaborate with global finance colleagues to ensure the consistency and integrity of financial data
What you'll need to succeed
- Experience in a finance support role covering AP, AR, or month end responsibilities
- Ideally part‑qualified (ACCA/CIMA) or motivated to begin professional studies
- Strong Excel skills and good understanding of core accounting principles
- Experience with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, or similar advantageous)
- Confident with reconciliations, variance analysis, and transactional finance activities
- Proactive, eager to learn, and comfortable working within a small, collaborative team
