Hays Accountancy & Finance are exclusively partnering with a rapidly growing and interesting financial services group to recruit a dynamic and hands-on Junior Assistant Accountant for their accounting team in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. A varied permanent position with future progression opportunities, offering remote/office hybrid working (2 days on-site, 3 days remote), flexible working hours and a competitive/generous benefits package. Best suited to a finance professional looking to commence AAT, CIMA, ACCA studies or qualified by experience, really looking to add value. Financial qualification study package on offer if required.
Your new role
Your key duties will involve preparing/processing journals, reconciling balance sheet items, maintaining accounting records, along with settling payments in-line with relevant delegated authorities. You will calculate commissions, accruals, prepayments, depreciation, bad debt allocation, along with re-insurance premiums/claims. You will reference data on the ledger, receipts processing including banking and matching to debts, along with monitoring cash movements/balances. You will monitor/resolve outstanding statements/invoices, issue sales invoices, maintain electronic banking, along with assisting in the preparation of management accounts, key performance indicators, cash analysis and forecasts. You will be involved in ad-hoc duties and financial administration to support the finance function.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this Junior Assistant Accountant role, you will need some experience in an accounting position, willing to learn, with a customer-focussed approach. Able to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines, have effective problem-solving skills, with key communication ability to build relationships both internally/externally at all levels. You will have knowledge of financial systems with MS Excel skills. Ideally, you will be part-qualified AAT, studying towards a financial qualification or qualified by experience. Experience within the financial services or insurance sectors, along with knowledge of online banking processes and SUN financial system would be advantageous but not essential.
