Hays is recruiting an experienced Finance Business Partner to join a dynamic Children and Families Finance Team within a local authority. This interim role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting the Children’s Travel Service with financial oversight, strategic input, and budgetary control.
Role Overview:
You’ll be a key financial advisor within the directorate, providing challenge, insight, and support to operational teams. Your expertise will help shape financial strategy, ensure compliance, and drive service improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead on budget monitoring, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Provide financial challenge and insight to operational teams.
- Prepare and present reports to senior stakeholders.
- Support savings plans, service reviews, and funding compliance.
- Contribute to cross-directorate initiatives and ad hoc financial projects.
- Liaise with external partners(e.g., SEND and Health) on joint funding arrangements.
Candidate Profile:
- Proven experience as a Finance Business Partner in a local authority setting.
- Strong understanding of public sector funding and budget management.
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence non-financial colleagues.
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial systems.
- Experience within a Children and Young People Directorate is highly desirable.
- Professionally qualified (e.g. AAT, CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
