Assistant Accountant– Greater Belfast – Fixed Term Contract

An established and reputable group based in Belfast is seeking an ambitious Assistant Accountant to join its growing finance team. Operating across vehicle sales, leasing and aftersales services, the organisation is experiencing strong expansion and is now strengthening its internal finance capability. Your new role
The Assistant Accountant will support the Financial Controller with the day‑to‑day running of the finance function, helping to ensure accurate financial information is delivered on time. This is a varied and hands‑on role offering exposure to month‑end processes, transactional finance and commercial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with preparation of monthly management accounts
- Support month‑end processes including journals, accruals and prepayments
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and bank accounts
- Maintain purchase and sales ledger entries and ensure accurate coding
- Process supplier invoices and support payment runs
- Assist with credit control and customer account reconciliations when required
- Prepare weekly cashflow updates and assist with variance analysis
- Provide financial support to operational teams across the dealership network
- Maintain accurate financial records in line with company policies
- Support year‑end audit preparation and respond to auditor queries
- Assist with ad‑hoc reporting and finance projects
What you'll need to succeed
- Previous experience in an accounts or finance support role
- Strong Excel skills and accuracy in handling financial data
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work to deadlines in a busy environment
- A proactive approach and willingness to learn
- Studying towards AAT or another accounting qualification (desirable, not essential)
