SEN Teaching Assistant – Year 6 (1:1 Autism Support), South London

Location: Brixton, South London

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Your New Role

We are seeking a Level 3 qualified SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a non-verbal Year 6 pupil with Autism, helping them prepare for the transition to secondary school. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in a child’s educational journey.

You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver tailored interventions, communication strategies, and emotional support. The ideal candidate will be proactive, patient, and passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide individualised support for a non-verbal pupil with Autism in Year 6.
  • Implement strategies to develop communication and social skills.
  • Assist with academic tasks and preparation for secondary school transition.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure progress.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism and complex needs.
  • Strong understanding of SEN strategies and communication tools (e.g., PECS, Makaton).
  • Ability to build positive relationships and maintain a calm, supportive approach.
