This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established architectural practice based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. A firm of Chartered Architects specialising in home extensions, loft conversions and housing developments, established for 30 years. The firm has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects across the residential, commercial, educational, and community sectors.
This is an award-winning practice that has a fantastic reputation in the West Midlands. You’ll be joining a team of 5 who are passionate about delivering meaningful spaces for their clients.
Your role
As an Architectural Technician or Architect, you will be involved in a wide range of residential, housing / apartment projects and mixed-use projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting measured surveys and attending site visits
- Taking detailed client briefs and translating them into design concepts & sketch plans
- Preparing and submitting comprehensive drawing packages for planning and building regulations, particularly for house extensions.
- Coordinating with consultants, contractors, and local authorities
- Ensuring compliance with UK building regulations, planning policies & permitted development rights and statutory legislation.
- Supporting the design team with technical detailing and presentation materials.
- Contributing to project delivery from concept through to completion.
- Support quality assurance and maintain project documentation standards
Candidate requirements
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a UK architectural practice undertaking similar work.
- Strong experience within the residential sector
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Proficiency to write tender packages and producing drawings in AutoCAD.
- Proficiency to produce all relevant drawings and applications
- Excellent technical knowledge and attention to detail
- Strong understanding of the building regulations
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- A detailed understanding of Seven Trent Build over and near too agreements.
- A detailed knowledge of permitted development rights, in particular for residential properties.
- Reasonable knowledge of the Party Wall Act and ability to serve relevant notices. (Not draft awards this will be done by Party Wall Surveyors separately).
- Ability to work on your own initiative
- Ability to work as a team player, work under high pressure in this fast-paced environment, meeting strict deadlines.
- Advantageous: Good design sensibility and freehand sketching ability
- Advantageous: Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop
- Advantageous: Knowledge of the role of the Principal Designer CDM/ BRPD
- Advantageous: Detailed knowledge of Revit
- Full driving licence and own car.
