Job Title: Payroll Officer
Location: Liverpool City Centre, Hybrid
Salary: Up to £34,000 per annum

Job Purpose
To ensure the timely and accurate processing of payroll records by compiling, organising and entering data into an integrated HR and Payroll system. The role ensures staff are paid correctly and on time, in line with contractual terms and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing
- Input pay claims for overtime and casual staff.
- Process new starters, leavers, and contractual changes.
- Ensure accurate deductions for tax, National Insurance, student loans, car parking, and attachment of earnings orders.
- Handle payroll queries from staff and managers in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Run month-end and year-end reports, including RTI submissions (FPS and EPS), BACS files, and costing reports.
- Generate monthly and ad hoc reports to ensure payroll integrity (e.g. gross-to-net, out-of-balance, payment breakdowns).
- Support and advise the Payroll & Pensions Officer as needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll data in line with GDPR and internal data protection policies.
- Process final payments and holiday adjustments for leavers; issue P45s.
- Action HMRC notifications (P9T and P9X).
- Calculate and report the monthly Apprenticeship Levy.
- Maintain e-preferences and distribute payslips and P60s electronically.
- Contribute to the development and documentation of payroll procedures.
- Organise and maintain payroll records (both paper and digital).
General Duties
- Provide flexible support across the wider team and contribute to cross-functional projects.
- Participate in training and appraisal processes.
- Adhere to organisational policies including those on equality, health and safety, and data protection.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience in end-to-end payroll processing.
- Strong understanding of statutory payroll requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Proficient in using payroll and HR systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
