Hays are working with a company based in Gloucester looking for a bookkeeper to come and help them out with all the starting processes. This is on a 6 month basis with scope to extend and we are looking for around 20–25 hours a week.
Your new role
- Reconcile historical activity and from that produce auditable and tax-compliant records.
- Work with the Interim FD to devise a full suite of basic accounting processes and procedures utilising the interim Accounting System – Likely to be Sage Line 50.
- Maintain accurate financial records and reconcile accounts regularly.
- Prepare and process invoices, ensuring timely payments and receipts.
- A basic understanding of VAT and able to produce compliant monthly/quarterly VAT returns.
- Nominal ledger Journals in order to produce a month-end TB.
- Generate ad-hoc financial reports to assist in decision-making processes.
- Collaborate with the team to continuously improve financial processes and efficiencies.
- Handle ad-hoc financial tasks as required by the accounting and finance departments
What you'll need to succeed
- Previous varied experience in an SME all round accounting role.
- Willingness to work with incomplete information and procedures to produce auditable records
- Initiative to help devise and introduce efficient accounting processes and procedures from scratch.
- Team player attitude and strong work ethic
- Proven ability to manage day-to-day accounting and provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills to handle a part-time schedule.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with various stakeholders
- Familiarity with basic accounting systems such as Sage Line 50 and/or more advanced systems such as NetSuite.
