Hit the Ground Running as an Accounts Assistant in West Bristol

Location: West Bristol, BS11
Contract: Interim, 6 months

Company overview
A fast paced and well established FMCG distribution business based in West Bristol (BS11) is seeking an Interim Assistant Accountant to provide immediate support to the finance function during a period of increased workload and operational change. The organisation supplies high volume consumer goods into national retail channels and operates across multiple sites.
This role will support the Finance Manager and wider finance team, with a strong focus on maintaining effective month end delivery and business as usual finance activities.

Key responsibilities
  • Supporting the production of monthly management accounts
  • Posting journals including accruals and prepayments
  • Completing balance sheet reconciliations and resolving discrepancies
  • Assisting with month end close processes to tight deadlines
  • Preparing VAT returns and supporting indirect tax compliance
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules
  • Supporting stock and inventory accounting and reconciliations
  • Assisting with budgeting, forecasting and margin analysis
  • Supporting audit preparation and responding to queries
  • Providing ad hoc finance support to operational and commercial teams

Candidate requirements
  • Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar interim finance role
  • Strong understanding of month end accounting processes
  • AAT qualified or studying, ACCA or CIMA part qualified, or qualified by experience
  • Experience working in a fast paced or transactional environment
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence using accounting systems
  • Able to start at short notice and work with minimal supervision

Desirable experience
  • FMCG, distribution, wholesale or logistics sector exposure
  • Stock or inventory accounting experience
  • Previous interim or contract assignments

Contract details
  • 6 month interim contract with potential for extension
  • Immediate start required
