A leading international law firm is seeking a proactive and detail‑ driven Accounts Assistant to join its Finance team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong financial background – ideally within legal or professional services – who is looking to develop their accounting career within a highly reputable and collaborative environment.
This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with three days per week in modern offices in Birmingham city centre and two days working from home.
Your new role
As an Accounts Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the firm’s financial processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance and high levels of service to internal stakeholders and clients. You’ll work within a supportive finance team, collaborating with colleagues across multiple UK offices.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Processing Client and Office account transactions in line with SRA compliance and internal best practice
- Conducting inter‑ account transfers
- Assisting with Purchase Ledger invoices and payments
- Supporting Month End activities
- Liaising with external clients regarding the firm's credit card facility
- Maintaining accurate accounting data across finance systems
- Providing guidance to fee earners and executive assistants on accounting procedures
- Assisting with bank reconciliations and posting corrections
- Handling queries from clients, banks and external stakeholders
- Supporting audits with necessary documentation
- Contributing to improvements in finance processes and systems
- Assisting with finance system upgrades and new practice implementations
- Producing financial reports as required
What you'll need to succeed
- A solid educational background, with at least 6 GCSEs at grade 4+ (or equivalent)
- Experience in a legal or professional services environment (preferred)
- A financial background with understanding of accounting processes
- Progress toward or interest in an accounting qualification (AAT, ACCA, etc.)
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organisational skills and a methodical approach to tasks
- Confidence in prioritising your own workload independently
- A collaborative, team‑focused mindset, including experience working with remote colleagues
