A well-established organisation based in Liverpool is seeking a Group Accountant to join its finance team. This is a pivotal role, offering the opportunity to contribute to the financial health and strategic direction of the business. You’ll be responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, supporting decision-making, and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Finance with monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts.
- Prepare and post monthly journals, accruals, and prepayments.
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage daily cashflow processes and forecasts.
- Submit quarterly VAT returns for the group.
- Monitor capital programmes and maintain audit-ready records.
- Manage deferred capital grants and related reporting.
- Prepare audit evidence and respond to external audit queries.
- Provide financial insights and reporting to senior stakeholders.
- Maintain and improve financial policies, procedures, and controls.
- Attend finance and budget holder meetings as required.
- Ensure quality control of financial data and intercompany transactions.
- Provide technical accounting support and training to junior team members.
- Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting.
- Identify and implement improvements to systems and processes.
- Maintain compliance with relevant regulations.
- Support wider organisational activities during key operational periods.
Experience/Qualifications
Essential:
- Qualified, Part-Qualified or qualified by experience.
- Strong management and financial accounting background.
- Analytical, innovative, and solutions-focused.
- Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Skilled in handling complex financial information and models.
- Advanced Excel and financial systems experience.
- High attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Flexible and collaborative approach to work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Committed to continuous professional development.
