Interim Financial Accountant

Job Title: Interim Financial Accountant
Location: Edinburgh, UK
Job Type: Full-Time, Interim Hybrid Work
Duration: Start ASAP – Up to 6 Months
Rate: £300 / day

Overview:
Hays are seeking a highly organised, detail-oriented, and proactive Interim Financial Accountant to support a new dynamic finance team in Edinburgh. This role is critical in ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting, and effective oversight of financial operations across multiple entities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure sound application of basic accounting principles and practices
  • Manage tax preparation duties and payroll processing, liaising with external tax advisors as needed
  • Lead financial control activities, including monthly analysis and variance reporting
  • Review account and bank reconciliations for accuracy and completeness
  • Oversee invoice processing, payments, and financial calculations
  • Ensure accurate financial data entry into accounting systems
  • Manage and plan detailed cash flow forecasts
  • Support the preparation of year-end statutory accounts and audit schedules
  • Liaise with external auditors, providing documentation and support
  • Recommend improvements to financial processes and internal controls
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for sub-entities and branches
  • Collaborate with project and country management teams to resolve financial queries and performance issues
Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a Financial Accountant, ideally within a multinational organisation
  • Strong proficiency in spreadsheets, databases, MS Office, and financial software
  • In-depth knowledge of UK accounting and tax regulations
  • Degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior staff
