Runcorn. SEMH resource base with complex behaviours. Full-time temporary contract starting November.

Your new company

Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Runcorn-based two-form entry primary school that is easily accessible via public transport as they require an experienced and motivated teaching assistant for a long-term full-time temporary contract. This is a full-time position supporting pupils with SEMH, trauma and complex behavioural needs within resource provision. This school may look to appoint the right person on a permanent basis.

Your new role

As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be joining a specialist SEMH resource team, working alongside the class teacher and other teaching assistants to offer inclusive and comprehensive support to a class of 8 pupils in year 5 with SEMH, trauma and complex behavioural needs. You will offer 1:1 support to your new pupils, adapting to best suit your pupils' personalities and needs, which in turn will aid in building strong constructive relationships. You will take a lead on ELSA support, building your pupils' emotional literacy and intelligence. As they progress, you will integrate them into new pupil groups and teach later life well-being skills. The pupils that you will be supporting will at times present complex behavioural challenges and have previously lashed out. To help prevent this and promote safety, you will actively track and record their behaviour, implementing strategies such as brain breaks, movement breaks, etc, prior to escalation. In the event that behaviour does escalate, you will move your pupil to a safe space and implement team teach if required.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, be willing to undergo a full enhanced DBS check, have relevant referenceable experience, and:

  • Have experience delivering ELSA interventions
  • Be Team Teach trained (or willing to undergo)
  • Have experience delivering trauma informed classroom support
  • Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract

What you'll get in return

If you are successful in your application, you will receive the full support, dedication and guidance of a senior DfE accredited recruitment consultant as well as a wide range of benefits, that include:

  • Free training
  • Upfront cost of DBS covered
  • Company pension scheme
  • Competitive rate of pay
  • Full holiday entitlement
  • Long-term contract
  • Potential permanent contract
  • Access to exclusive vacancies
  • Refer a Friend scheme
