Year 4 1:1 Teaching Assistant

Job Opportunity: 1:1 Teaching Assistant – Year 4 (SEND Support)

Location: Southport, Merseyside
Contract Type: Term-time only, full-time
Salary: Dependent on experience and qualifications

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and proactive Teaching Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a pupil in Year 4 who is working at an Early Years developmental level. The pupil has Down syndrome and presents with some behavioural needs, requiring a calm and consistent adult who can build trust and offer tailored support throughout the school day.

This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and understands the importance of meeting children where they are. You will work closely with the class teacher and SEND team to adapt learning activities, support communication and social development, and help the pupil engage positively with their environment. The role will involve supporting transitions, managing behaviour with sensitivity, and promoting independence and emotional wellbeing.

We welcome applicants with experience in SEND, particularly those familiar with supporting pupils with developmental delays or behavioural challenges. A relevant qualification such as a Level 2 or Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning is desirable, but not essential. What matters most is your ability to connect with children, remain calm under pressure, and work collaboratively with staff and families.
