Working Capital Role
Your New Role:
You’ll be joining a well‑known, long‑established law firm with an excellent reputation in the market. The firm prides itself on delivering high‑quality legal services supported by strong financial management. They take their finances seriously and are committed to ensuring that client billing is accurate, timely, and handled with care. You’ll be part of a team that plays a crucial role in keeping the firm’s operations running smoothly.
Your new role:
This is a hands‑on, fast‑paced role where you’ll work closely with lawyers and Partners to help them manage their ongoing matters, prepare bills, and ensure everything is billed correctly and on schedule. You’ll act as the go‑to finance contact for your assigned teams, offering guidance, support, and insight to help them stay on top of their financial responsibilities. It’s an ideal position for someone who has already worked in a law firm and understands the nuances of legal billing, WIP management, and working capital.
Main Responsibilities:
Reviewing WIP with Partners to help them meet monthly and quarterly billing targets
Preparing draft bills and managing them through the full approval workflow
Chasing outstanding drafts to ensure bills are finalised promptly
Comparing estimates vs actuals and encouraging better billing discipline across teams
Handling write‑offs, billing notes, file closures, and matter updates
Maintaining accurate financial records and documenting any changes
Supporting matter setup and maintenance within the firm’s finance system
Helping lawyers understand billing processes and best practices
Ensuring new matters are set up correctly for smooth billing
Promoting early and consistent monthly billing to improve cash flow
What you'll need to succeed:
Previous experience in a law firm
Knowledge of legal billing or working capital
Confidence working with senior lawyers and Partners
Strong attention to detail and solid numeracy
Good Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)
Experience with systems like Elite 3E (advantageous but not essential)
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a busy environment
A proactive, commercially aware mindset
