Waste Education Supervisor

Your new company

You will be joining Birmingham City Council on a temporary basis to supervise a team of approximately 9 officers conducting waste education and prevention projects and programmes through a planned programme of information, education, and enforcement action, where appropriate.

Your new role

As the Waste Education and Prevention Supervisor, you will oversee a team of officers tasked with improving waste presentation outside residential and business properties.

This will be achieved through the provision of information, education campaigns, and collaboration with residents, businesses, and other organisations to promote recycling. You will ensure the team delivers targeted actions and campaigns to comply with the Environmental Protection Act and other relevant legislation. Addressing non-compliance through advice, assistance, or legal action as necessary will be a key part of your role.

You will be responsible for allocating workloads, monitoring delivery and quality of work, and conducting performance, welfare, and behaviour discussions with officers. Additionally, you will ensure officers collate, maintain, and present evidence of criminal enforcement matters within formal legal processes and proceedings.

Promoting and working with a wide range of partners, including statutory, third sector, and other service providers, to maintain local environmental cleanliness is also essential.

Utilising IT systems to record, analyse, and interpret information, you will produce reports on team activities as required. Adhering to City Council and Directorate policies and procedures, you will accurately complete all relevant documentation. You may also be required to perform any other duties commensurate with the grade.

What you'll need to succeed

The ideal candidate will have proven experience of supervising teams and managing projects. A strong knowledge of waste management and environmental protection legislation is essential.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, along with proficiency in using IT systems for data management and reporting. The ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders is also important.

What you'll get in return

This role is offering £23.84 per hour, paid on a weekly basis. You will also get opportunities to apply for internal permanent roles with the organisation.
