FTSE 100 business and a leader in its field is currently looking to recruit a Treasury Accountant.
Your new role
Main Function/Purpose
- The Treasury Accountant will perform all accounting, reporting, analysis and related internal control activities for treasury transactions and balances within the group's head office operations. The role will also have oversight of financial reporting for treasury for all group operating companies worldwide.
- You will report to the Group Reporting Manager and work closely with the Group Treasurer and the wider treasury team, with flexibility to become more involved in treasury activities if desired. The role will also involve close collaboration with the Group Financial Controller, the wider Group Finance team, and other stakeholders across the group.
- You will act as a business partner and be the subject matter expert for treasury accounting across the group with opportunity to work on projects such as group restructuring and debt transactions. Your approach will be tailored to the groups' highly decentralised, international network of operations.
- You will also support the Group Financial Controller, Group Treasurer and others in a variety of project work as required.
- This is an exciting time to join the Group Finance team, as the role offers scope to add value and contribute to the ongoing development of Group Finance and treasury activities. The position provides latitude to shape the role over time and make it your own in a way that adds value to the business.
- The role will be based in our London head office at Marble Arch. We operate a hybrid workplace with three days per week (Tues/Wed/Thurs) in the office.
Detailed Accountabilities/Objectives
- Perform all accounting for our group treasury company and prepare monthly management accounts and analysis.
- Accounting for foreign currency balances and foreign exchange derivatives (forward points, gains/losses, etc.).
- Working closely with treasury and Group FP&A, responsible for monthly forecasting and annual budgeting of Group net finance costs, including preparing commentary and sensitivity analyses.
- Leading presentations to the Group CFO as part of the budget, half‑year and full‑year reporting for finance costs including analyses of variances and sensitivities.

- Assist with the preparation of the monthly Treasury reporting pack to senior management.
- Review monthly reporting from operating companies to ensure correct accounting treatment, classification and disclosure of treasury transactions.
- Prepare financial statement treasury notes and disclosures for the Group Annual Report, including ad-hoc non-treasury items (e.g. going concern assessment).
- Preparation of statutory accounts for group finance (UK GAAP).
- Hedge accounting activities in accordance with IFRS 9, including preparation of hedge documentation, ongoing hedge effectiveness testing (need to be aware of concept and some knowledge but not particularly complex).
- Perform and maintain key treasury accounting controls, including bank reconciliations, intercompany balances, financial instrument valuations, segregation of duties and related control documentation, and maintain and test the Group internal control framework for treasury accounting in accordance with group standards.
- Be the subject matter expert for accounting of treasury transactions under IFRS, including preparation of technical accounting papers as needed. Recent examples: accounting for the new Ireland FinCo, supporting on IFRS 18 implementation, early repayment of bonds.
- Review and analyse Group FX exposures monthly, monitoring exposures across the Group and providing business partnering support and ad‑hoc advice to stakeholders on FX‑related matters.
- Provide advice to operating companies on the accounting treatment for treasury transactions in particular FX, interest, cash & derivatives.
- Responsibility for the maintenance and ongoing improvements of the accounting module of the Treasury Management System (IT2) (e.g. automation opportunities, system upgrades)
- Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, coordinating audit requests and responses for treasury developments and during the half‑year and year‑end reporting processes
- Prepare quarterly VAT returns
What you'll need to succeed
Education/Qualifications
- Qualified accountant with prior exposure to treasury accounting
- Minimum of 5 years+ total relevant experience
- Excellent A-Level results.
Experience & Skills
- Experience in a related treasury accounting role or in an international audit and accounting firm with corporate treasury exposure.
- Previous exposure to treasury transactions accounting under IFRS and UK GAAP.
- Knowledge of hedge accounting and accounting for fx transactions.
- Good understanding of internal financial controls, managing risk in treasury accounting and “what good looks like”.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders and finance teams across 31 different countries.
- Knowledge of financial systems with a capacity, curiosity and willingness to learn (key systems IT2, HFM).
