Transaction Monitoring SME – Level 2 Investigations
London (Hybrid) | £380 per day PAYE | Contract: 4–6 months | ASAP Start
Hays are working with a global consultancy supporting a major UK banking client, who are looking to appoint an experienced Transaction Monitoring Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join their London-based financial crime team.
This is a contract role operating within a managed services environment, supporting a clearing bank that provides services to Money Service Businesses (MSBs). The position is focused on Level 2 transaction monitoring investigations and complex escalations.
You will play a key role in the transaction monitoring function, acting as an SME escalation point and supporting both onshore and offshore teams. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting complex Level 2 transaction monitoring investigations
- Reviewing and escalating alerts for SAR consideration
- Drafting clear, well-documented investigation and escalation reports
- Performing quality assurance / quality checks on investigative work
- Supporting and guiding an offshore team based in Bangalore
- Troubleshooting complex or high-risk cases
- Reviewing and responding to escalations from Level 1 analysts
- Ensuring adherence to SLAs, internal policies, and regulatory requirements
- Engaging with internal stakeholders across Payments, CDD, and Financial Crime teams
What you’ll need to succeed
- Strong Transaction Monitoring experience at SME or senior investigation level
- Demonstrable SAR experience (this must be clearly shown on your CV)
- Proven AML background covering:
- Transaction Monitoring (essential)
- Payments
- Sanctions
- Name Screening
- Experience using transaction
monitoring systems, ideally ComplyAdvantage
(Actimize or similar TM systems also acceptable) - Experience supporting or overseeing offshore delivery teams
- Strong judgement and escalation decision-making skills
Please note: Candidates with experience limited to payments, sanctions, or name screening without transaction monitoring experience will not be suitable.

- Location: Canary Wharf, London
- Working model: Hybrid
- 3 days office-based
- 2 days working from home
- Hours: UK business hours (08:00–17:00)
Contract details
- Rate: £380 per day (PAYE)
- Duration: 4–6 months (likely closer to 6 months)
- Start date: ASAP
- Interview process: 2 stages
