Placemaking (Infrastructure & Regeneration) | MRTPI | 3-6 Month Local Authority Contract

Your new company

Hays are working in partnership with a local authority in the North East of Scotland to recruit a Development Planning Officer on a contract basis for an initial 3-6 month period. Most of your time will be spent working remotely, but travel to the local authority area will be required on occasion to attend committee reviews etc.

This contract offers an excellent opportunity to develop and collaborate on new and innovative approaches to placemaking and development planning in areas such as 20-minute neighbourhoods, connected communities, climate change, and health & wellbeing.

Your new role

  • Support the delivery of the Council's approach to planning, regeneration and journey towards net zero by 2045
  • Lead and contribute to the development of strategic planning documents, spatial strategies (including infrastructure) and policy guidance.
  • Engage with internal & external stakeholders, neighbouring authorities, Elected Members and communities to ensure inclusive and effective placemaking

  • Analyse complex planning issues and provide expert advice to inform policy and decision making

What you'll need to succeed

You will be a motivated and collaborative Planner with the ability to analyse, interpret and present evidence and information succinctly and to a variety of audiences.

  • A degree in Town Planning or a related discipline
  • Chartered membership of the RTPI (or equivalent)
  • Experience in development planning or strategic planning policy
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to work across disciplines that include infrastructure, conservation and heritage, and the environment.
  • A commitment to innovation, sustainability, and delivering positive outcomes for people and places.
  • Effective communication skills and an ability to develop strong working relationships, together with time management and organisational skills.

What you'll get in return

This is a long-term, stable contract position offering hybrid and agile working arrangements. The hourly rate is negotiable dependent upon your experience, but will be in the region of £28-£32ph PAYE. Ideally, you will have the capacity to work 36 hours per week, though part-time work will also be considered.
