Hays Accountancy & Finance are supporting a manufacturing business in Lowestoft who require a temporary bookkeeper / accounts assistant for a period until February 2026 working Monday–Thursday on-site.

Your new role

In this temporary bookkeeper job, you will report to the Finance Manager and be responsible for reconciling the petty cash, updating the stock items on the asset register and checking those items which have been allocated to manufacturing projects, processing staff expenses, as well as checking timesheets for the production staff, focusing on overtime hours and payroll costs which are allocated to specific projects.

You will also support the Finance Manager with general ledger posting into their IFS accounting software, which will involve accruals, pre-payments and journals as well as various reconciliations. Any experience of collating financial data for month-end would be an advantage as the Finance Manager may give you more responsibility.

What you'll need to succeed

You will be immediately available or free at short notice and willing to give commitment until February 2026 to this temporary finance job. Your technical skills will cover transactional finance up to trial balance, as you will need to have experience of double-entry bookkeeping, able to reconcile various accounts, which will include updating stock items as well as post accruals, prepayments and journals.

This is a fast-paced manufacturing business with a full order book, so you will be required to use your initiative to investigate and resolve issues. Therefore, you must be confident with accounting software, ideally IFS (but not essential) and a good level of Excel ability.

What you'll get in return

As explained, this is a temporary bookkeeper / assistant accountant job based in Lowestoft until February 2026 and will pay circa £17.00 per hour, including your holiday pay. They require cover from Monday to Thursday, 8.30am–5pm.
