Your new company
Our client is an Environmental Consultancy based in Leeds who were established in 2007. They offer a range of specialist environmental services to public and private sector organisations across the UK.
They are looking for someone to support them with their mission to improve sustainability in the UK. Supporting various clients to develop their sustainability credentials and to minimise their impact on the environment.
Your new role
As the Technical Director of Waste Management, you will lead the strategic and technical direction of the organisation’s waste management operations.
In this role you will be working alongside a specialist team of consultants to provide technical advice / solutions to a wide range of different clients across the waste management sector. These clients include local authorities, universities / schools, renewable energy companies and the NHS.
The main responsibilities of this role will include:- Develop and implement the technical strategy for waste management aligned with environmental and business goals.
- Advise the executive team on emerging technologies, regulatory changes, and sustainability trends.
- Ensure operational efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance across various sites.
- Ensure full compliance with local, national, and international waste management regulations and environmental standards.
- Lead audits, risk assessments, and environmental impact evaluations.
- Drive innovation in waste reduction, circular economy practices, and resource recovery.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and processes to improve environmental performance.
- Liaise with government agencies, regulators, clients, and community stakeholders.
What you'll need to succeed
- Extensive experience managing on a range of waste management / procurement projects
- A minimum of 10 year’s industry experience (Including consultancy experience)
- Experience liaising with a range of public sector clients
- The ability to balance your commitment to the environment with the need to be corporate and business-minded
- The ability to build relationships with a range of people, such as project managers and contractors
- The ability to manage client expectations around sustainability issues
- Knowledge of environmental issues, but also technological solutions, and relevant environmental legislation, policy and guidance
- Project management skills to manage scope, budget and timescales
- Experience conducting research, writing reports and making relevant recommendations.
