Technical Claims Handler
Your new firm
Our client, a collaborative and nurturing international firm, is looking for a Technical Claims Handler to join their Professional Indemnity team in Bristol, who act on numerous high-value and sensitive claims for clients throughout the UK, including solicitors, surveyors, accountants, brokers, engineers, architects and their insurers. This role is based in our client's Bristol office however you will be able to work remotely from home for part of the week if desired as the firm operates a hybrid working policy.
Your new role
In this role, you will play a key part in protecting both the insurer’s and insured’s positions by identifying information gaps and conducting thorough investigations into notifications. You’ll provide clear, outcome-focused guidance to insureds and brokers, ensuring a high standard of service. A strategic approach to claims resolution will be essential, balancing commercial considerations and cost-benefit analysis. You will manage a full caseload of professional indemnity claims with minimal supervision, demonstrating a solid grasp of delegated authority principles and reporting obligations. Additionally, you’ll support managers in supervising team members, identifying training needs, and delivering both individual and group training sessions. Building strong relationships with clients and suppliers will be vital to meeting and exceeding service expectations, while maintaining a consistent, high-quality approach to claims handling. You’ll ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators, apply insurers’ reserving policies, and manage costs effectively through appropriate use of external suppliers. Your responsibilities will also include assessing liability and quantum, advising insureds on complaints and claims, negotiating settlements within authority limits, and reporting on policy coverage. You’ll oversee panel solicitors where necessary and ensure accurate, high-quality data is maintained within the case management system.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will need to be an experienced claims handler. You will bring strong technical claims expertise, with a solid understanding of relevant legislation, legal frameworks, and the importance of compliance. Highly organised and adaptable, you’re able to manage competing priorities while consistently delivering high-quality work under pressure. You’re committed to enhancing the client experience by building strong relationships and applying a broad, commercial mindset to drive continuous service improvement. You’ll actively contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive team culture, staying up to date with legal and procedural developments and sharing knowledge to support team growth. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications - including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook -
is essential, along with experience using case management systems.
