Teaching Assistant – Specialist Secondary School

Are you passionate about supporting young people with additional needs in their education journey? A specialist secondary school in Preston is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join their team on a long-term temporary basis through Hays Recruitment.

About the School:
This inclusive and nurturing school caters to students aged 11–19 with a wide range of additional needs, including moderate to severe learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions, and complex physical or medical needs. The school prides itself on creating a supportive environment where every student is encouraged to achieve their full potential.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored support to students with diverse learning needs, both in the classroom and during individual or small group sessions.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible lessons.
  • Support students with personal care and mobility needs where required.
  • Help maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Contribute to the development of students’ social and emotional skills.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff.
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs (SEN) is highly desirable.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting students.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one through Hays).
