Teaching Assistant – 1:1 SEMH Support (Year 6) – Wallasey Primary School
About the School A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Wallasey is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 6 pupil with significant SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs. The school prides itself on its nurturing ethos and is looking for someone who can offer consistency, empathy, and resilience in supporting a child with complex behavioural challenges.
The Role
This is a full-time position starting immediately, with the potential to become a long-term role for the right candidate.

This is a full-time position starting immediately, with the potential to become a long-term role for the right candidate.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing tailored 1:1 support to a Year 6 pupil with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Building a trusting and therapeutic relationship to help the pupil regulate emotions and engage with learning
- Supporting the class teacher in promoting a calm and structured classroom environment
- Implementing strategies to de-escalate behaviour and support emotional wellbeing
- Liaising closely with the SENCO, pastoral team, and external professionals
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Proven experience supporting children with SEMH and behavioural challenges
- Confidence in managing dysregulated behaviour with a trauma-informed approach
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent under pressure
- Experience in KS2 is desirable, but not essential
- Team player with a proactive and compassionate attitude
