Teaching Assistant job, working 1:1 with a student with additional needs (SEN) in a popular Sefton school.
Your new school
Hays Education is working closely with a caring and inclusive community secondary school in Sefton, who are seeking an experienced and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team immediately. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and has the skills to make a meaningful difference to their educational journey.
Your new role
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
Provide tailored support to a learner with specific additional needs, ensuring they can access lessons and make consistent progress.
Implement individualised strategies and interventions based on the learner’s SEN profile (e.g. ASD, SEMH, cognition and learning, communication and interaction).
Work collaboratively with the SENCO and teaching staff to adapt resources, scaffold learning, and promote independence.
Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using calm, consistent approaches.
Help create a safe, supportive environment where the learner feels valued and confident.
What you'll need to succeed
We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who has direct experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs in a school or specialist setting. Understands how to adjust communication, pace and expectations to meet individual learning needs. Demonstrates patience, resilience and a nurturing approach. Who can build strong, trusting relationships that promote engagement and wellbeing. Is available to start immediately and committed to working in a long‑term role.
