Hays Education is working closely with a caring and inclusive community secondary school in Sefton, who are seeking an experienced and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team immediately. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and has the skills to make a meaningful difference to their educational journey.

Your new role

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide tailored support to a learner with specific additional needs, ensuring they can access lessons and make consistent progress.

• Implement individualised strategies and interventions based on the learner’s SEN profile (e.g. ASD, SEMH, cognition and learning, communication and interaction).

• Work collaboratively with the SENCO and teaching staff to adapt resources, scaffold learning, and promote independence.

• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using calm, consistent approaches.

• Help create a safe, supportive environment where the learner feels valued and confident.

What you'll need to succeed

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who has direct experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs in a school or specialist setting. Understands how to adjust communication, pace and expectations to meet individual learning needs. Demonstrates patience, resilience and a nurturing approach. Who can build strong, trusting relationships that promote engagement and wellbeing. Is available to start immediately and committed to working in a long‑term role.
