Class Teacher – Complex Needs

Your new school

Hays Education is working in partnership with a specialist provision based in the Lancaster area. The school supports children and young people with a wide range of additional needs and is committed to providing a safe, nurturing and highly individualised learning environment. You’ll be joining a dedicated staff team who work collaboratively to support pupils in developing both their academic and personal skills.

Your new role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, resilient and child‑centred Class Teacher to lead a complex needs classroom. The class supports pupils aged 7–14, with behavioural needs and a range of learning profiles. The cohort includes nine pupils, predominantly with autism, though not exclusively.
You will be supported by a strong in‑class team of Teaching Assistants, including an experienced HLTA who plays a key role in delivering interventions and maintaining routines. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about helping pupils achieve meaningful progress.

Key responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs
  • Lead and manage a skilled support team to ensure consistent, high-quality provision
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils using a trauma-informed and flexible approach
  • Implement behaviour regulation strategies and personalised learning plans
  • Work closely with therapists, pastoral staff and families to support holistic development
  • Contribute to wider school initiatives, reviews and progress assessments
What you'll need to succeed
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent)
  • Experience working with pupils with SEND, particularly autism and behavioural needs
  • A calm, proactive and adaptable approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice
What you'll get in return
  • Supportive leadership and a highly collaborative staff team
  • Access to professional development through both the school and Hays
  • A rewarding role where every day makes a difference to the lives of young people
What you need to do now
If you’re interested in this exciting teaching opportunity, please apply through Hays or contact us for an informal discussion about the role.
