Overview / Purpose
This newly Created role within the University of Cambridge’s Finance Division will lead The development and implementation of systemic stewardship across the University’s pension schemes. Reporting to the Head of Group Pensions, the role Is central to embedding responsible investment principles across all assets. Classes, with a particular focus on climate change as a systemic risk.
The successful Candidate will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including The Finance for Systemic Change Centre, the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, and trustees of the University’s pension schemes. This is a strategic, high-impact role suited to someone passionate about Sustainability, governance, and long-term value creation.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and deliver the Systemic stewardship strategy across multiple pension schemes.
- Align stewardship Activities with fiduciary duties, regulatory requirements, and Sustainability goals.
- Represent the University’s Stewardship profile nationally and internationally.
Investment Oversight
- Lead responsible Investment aspects of asset manager selection, monitoring, and engagement.
- Conduct ESG due diligence and influence external managers.
- Implement stewardship approaches across asset classes including private equity, fixed income, and alternatives.
Reporting & Engagement
- Oversee statutory reporting and disclosures related to responsible investment.
- Engage with scheme members and stakeholders to promote transparency.
- Lead University-level and industry-level collaborations on systemic stewardship.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Proven experience in systemic stewardship, ESG, or responsible investment.
- Strong strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to lead complex programmes and influence senior decision-makers.
- Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and report writing.
- Strong analytical and project management capabilities.
Desirable
- Experience working with trustees or within pension schemes.
- Knowledge of UK pension regulations and ESG reporting frameworks (e.g. TCFD, Stewardship Code).
- CFA, CFA ESG Certificate, or similar investment qualification.
- Experience in diplomacy or collaborative engagement with financial institutions
