Are you a qualified supply teacher looking for rewarding work in special schools? Do you have a passion for pastoral support, wellbeing and building positive relationships with young people?
We are recruiting supply teachers for special schools across Dudley, Sandwell, Wolverhampton and Walsall, working with pupils who need both strong teaching and consistent pastoral care.
Supply Teaching in Special Schools – What to Expect
Special schools offer a supportive, structured and highly rewarding teaching environment. As a supply teacher, you can expect:
- Small class sizes, allowing for personalised teaching
- High levels of classroom support, including experienced teaching assistants and support staff
- A strong emphasis on pastoral care, emotional regulation and wellbeing
- Clear routines, behaviour strategies and whole‑school support systems
- Close collaboration with SENCOs, therapists and pastoral teams
- A school culture focused on supporting the whole child, not just academic outcomes
This is an ideal setting for teachers who enjoy relationship‑led teaching and making a real impact.

- Delivering engaging lessons within your subject area
- Adapting teaching approaches to meet a range of SEND needs
- Supporting pupils’ emotional, social and behavioural development
- Creating a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment
- Working closely with teaching assistants and pastoral staff
Who We’re Looking For

- Hold QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification
- Are experienced in SEND, SEMH or special school settings, or have a strong interest
- Value pastoral support alongside academic teaching
- Are patient, resilient and emotionally intelligent
- Want flexible supply work with meaningful impact
Experience in special education is beneficial, but not essential – the right attitude and willingness to support children holistically is key.
