Your new company
An Ofsted Good Special Needs School for complex disabilities in South Birmingham is looking for an experienced Strategic Business Manager. The role is a full time role,
8am - 4pm, Monday to Friday term time only. This is a long term role with potential permanent opportunities for the right candidate.

Your new role

The school is a large SEN school with 3 sites and over 300 pupils and manages all processes inhouse. This is a pivotal, strategic role for the school with 5 direct reports ins for Site, HR, Finance, Compliance, IT and contracts. The role will entail:

  • Providing strategic leadership for finance, operations, and overall school performance as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Lead and oversee Finance, IT, Estates, HR, risk, legal, compliance, and major contracts.
  • Develop and manage long-term financial strategy, budgets, forecasts, and income generation to ensure sustainability, handling a budget over £9 million.
  • Drive operational efficiency, value for money, and effective procurement, including capital projects and contract management.
  • Ensure robust governance, including risk management, safeguarding, regulatory compliance, and policy frameworks.
  • Lead digital, data, and estates strategies to support school growth, infrastructure, and performance improvement.
  • Promote a high-performance culture, leading and developing staff while supporting equality, wellbeing, and organisational values.

The ideal candidate must have a strong background within the education sector and at a strategic level with proven experience in the above.

What you'll need to succeed

You will have recognised management experience in all of the above areas. You must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the principles behind school improvement, including school improvement planning, monitoring and reviewing progress. You will be an organised individual with the ability to manage different functions of the school as well as excellent communication skills (including written, oral and presentation skills). The school will consider a non-school background but candidates MUST be able to display proven experience in the above factors.
