Storage Engineer

Role: Senior Storage Engineer
Duration: 6 months initially
Contract Type: Inside IR35 contract
Rate: Negotiable
Location: Hybrid – 2 days a week onsite may be required – South East
Clearance Requirement: SC Clearance will be gained for the successful candidate.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain client FlashSystem storage platforms, including provisioning, monitoring, and routine administration.
  • Build and manage Brocade SAN fabrics, including zoning, switch configuration, and integration with storage and tape systems.
  • Configure and support client tape libraries (TS-series) and ensure integration with backup environments.
  • Validate racking, cabling, and patching of storage arrays, SAN switches, and tape devices through hands-on inspection and verification.
  • Perform firmware/code upgrades for FlashSystem arrays, Brocade switches, and tape infrastructure.
  • Use RHEL 9 system administration skills for host connectivity, multipathing, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and maintain Ansible automation playbooks for deployment and configuration tasks.
  • Provide basic container management (Docker/Podman) for running and troubleshooting containers (no Kubernetes).
  • Troubleshoot storage, SAN, tape, hardware, and container-related incidents; maintain clear and accurate documentation.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams and participate in on-call rotation.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with IBM FlashSystem and IBM Spectrum Virtualize/SVC.
  • Strong knowledge of Brocade Fibre Channel SAN technologies and switch administration.
  • Experience with IBM tape libraries and enterprise backup integration.
  • Proven experience validating physical installation work (racking, cabling, patching).
  • Proficiency in RHEL 9, Ansible, and basic container operations.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Working with Infrastructure as Code (using GitsOps practices)
  • Familiar with working in a wider infrastructure team.
