About the Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Staff Officer Accountant to join the Department of Justice’s Financial Services Division at Clare House. This newly created role sits within a small, supportive Accounts Team, working closely with four DPs and reporting into one DP Accountant. You will play a pivotal role across both Agency and NDPB accounts, with regular interaction across the Department and with key external stakeholders such as Audit Office teams and Non‑Departmental Public Bodies.

This is an excellent chance for a qualified finance professional to gain expertise, influence financial governance, and develop their career pathway within the NICS.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly and annual resource accounts meeting statutory and financial reporting requirements
  • Work closely with business areas to ensure financial data integrity and resolve queries
  • Support the Department’s financial management duties through high‑quality reporting and analysis
  • Collaborate with colleagues across FSD and external partners to meet strict deadlines
  • Engage with audit teams, NDPBs, and key governance stakeholders
Qualifications (Essential)
Full, current membership of one of the following professional accountancy bodies (or an equivalent qualification):
  • Chartered Accountants Ireland
  • Institute of Chartered Accountants Scotland
  • Institute of Chartered Accountants England & Wales
  • CIMA
  • ACCA
  • CIPFA
  • Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland

Plus:

  • Minimum of one year’s post‑qualification experience (within the last five years) in a finance‑related environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform under pressure
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capability
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines
