Job Opportunity: Staff Officer Accountant–Welfare supplementary payment team NICS.

Your new role
We're seeking a highly detail-oriented and self-motivated individual to join our Welfare Supplement Payment Team in a niche, long-term role focused on debt reconciliation, stakeholder liaison, and financial accuracy.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently with minimal supervision, has strong Excel skills, and is confident in managing complex manual debt ledgers. You'll play a key role in maintaining financial integrity across multiple accounts and supporting wider reporting and audit activities.
What you'll need to succeed

Salary: £24.04 p/h £41,272 annually.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparation and posting of monthly journals to maintain the accuracy of multiple debt balances
  • Reconciliation and maintenance of multiple manual debt ledgers
  • Liaison with relevant stakeholders to investigate and clearly reconcile items.
  • Reconciliation of general ledger account codes and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Provide financial information as input for Annual Report and Accounts
  • General accountancy duties to support the production of the Work & Health and Operational Delivery Group Resource Accounts and audit activities
What We're Looking For:
  • Strong Excel skills – this is a spreadsheet-heavy role
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality of work
  • Comfortable working solo with limited interaction
  • Confident in presenting and liaising with stakeholders
  • Ability to hit the ground running – minimal training provided
  • Experience in debt reconciliation and journal posting
  • Self-motivated and capable of deciphering complex financial content
  • Must be a professionally qualified accountant and have at least one year's experience gained in the last five years, in a finance-related environment.
Work Pattern:
  • Hybrid: 2 days in-office (Monday & Tuesday), remainder remote
  • 37 days annual leave
  • 37 hours per week
