Sports and Wellbeing Mentor at a Bradford primary school

Job Title: Sports and Wellbeing Mentor
Location: BD5, Bradford
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Fixed Term (with potential for extension)
Hours: 36¼ hours per week
Salary: Band 8, SCP 17–22 (pro rata, term-time only)

About the Role
You will:
  • Teach PE across all year groups, including SEN provision.
  • Plan and deliver inclusive, engaging lessons that promote physical development and teamwork.
  • Lead after-school sports clubs and coordinate pupil participation in local competitions.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring to support emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and self-esteem.
  • Promote positive friendships, resilience, and the school’s community values.
  • Work closely with the SENDCo and safeguarding team.

What We’re Looking For
  • Experience working with children in a school, sports, or youth setting.
  • Passion for PE, sport, and children’s wellbeing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build nurturing relationships and act as a positive role model.
  • Understanding of physical, emotional, and mental health needs in children.
  • Willingness to undertake safeguarding training and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Sports coaching or PE-related qualifications.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND or SEMH needs.
  • First aid qualification.
  • GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Fluency in spoken English to an Intermediate Threshold Level (as per the Immigration Act 2016).
