Interim Specialist Advisor (Museums) - Birmingham City Council – 2 months – From £550 per day

Your new company

Birmingham City Council provides essential services to over a million residents across the city. The Council is looking to recruit a specialist advisor for a 2-month project.

Your new role

This role is for a consultant, ideally with expertise in the museums / heritage sector, to review the city council’s financial arrangements for and with Birmingham Museums Trust (BMT) including reporting back to the council on the veracity, viability and sustainability of the Museums Trusts' proposed financial plan. This project will be over two months - October to November 2024.
The duties involve:
  • Understanding the implications of the city council’s legal and financial context / challenges
  • Understanding the current contractual commitments / arrangements in place between BCC and BMT including contract fees, grant payments, and compensation. Also, council lease agreements for museums museum buildings and council responsibility for collections
  • Understanding the trust's commitments / liabilities to other stakeholders e.g. Arts Council England National Portfolio Funding Status
  • Reviewing and interpreting previous reports from Financial consultants
  • Working closely with Council officers to analyse, interpret and challenge the financial information and forecasts presented by Birmingham Museums Trust including the Trusts assumptions made in their financial plans
  • Verifying and setting out any potential risks
  • Presenting findings and recommendations to Council executives on the future (financial) requirements for a sustainable and viable museums service

What you'll need to succeed

Successful candidates will have strong experience with financial analysis and a background in arts and cultural programmes. Experience supporting public sector organisations or local authorities would be helpful in this role.
