Special Projects Surveyor – Major Works (Latent Defects & Fire Safety)
Salary: £68,309 + performance bonus
Location: North London (Islington, Hackney, Haringey)
Hybrid: Up to 2 days per week from home

Are you an experienced Building Surveyor with a passion for solving complex building issues, delivering high‑risk remediation projects, and making homes safer for residents? This is a unique opportunity to join a specialist team tackling some of the most challenging latent defect and fire‑safety projects across North London.
It’s a highly specialised role focused on major works, structural issues, building pathology, cladding remediation, and long‑term defect investigation. You’ll take ownership of projects across a diverse portfolio of high‑rise, mid‑rise, and low‑rise residential buildings (6–22 storeys), working independently while being part of a skilled and supportive team.

The Role
  • Manage multiple remediation projects simultaneously from inception through completion
  • Diagnose issues through strong building pathology expertise
  • Ensure compliance with current fire‑safety and building‑regulation requirements
  • Oversee contractors, consultants, and site operations
  • Apply deep understanding of CDM regulations
  • Communicate clearly and sensitively with residents
  • Produce high‑quality technical reports and contract documentation
  • Work across two major workstreams: leaseholder blocks and general‑needs residential properties
  • Visit sites regularly — with an Oyster card provided for operational travel
About You
You should bring:
  • Strong Building Surveying background with major works experience
  • Proven experience of latent defects, cladding, fire safety or structural remediation
  • Ability to manage complex, multi‑disciplinary projects with minimal supervision
  • Practical understanding of CDM Regulations
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills
  • Experience working in housing, local authority or similar environments
  • Confidence in engaging with residents, including explaining technical issues in a clear, empathetic way
  • The ability to work across multi‑storey residential buildings, including high‑rise blocks

Why Apply?
  • Work on meaningful, safety‑critical projects shaping the future of residential building standards
  • Join a specialist team of five delivering high‑profile, impactful programmes
  • Hyper‑local patch — most sites walkable across North London
  • Hybrid working: 2 days from home
  • Oyster card provided for site travel
  • Clear, structured interview process with real focus on technical capability
