Property Lawyer with planning experience – 5-month contract

Your new company
A progressive and inclusive public sector legal team is seeking a talented Property Solicitor with experience in planning law to join their dynamic legal services department. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on high-profile regeneration and development projects that make a real difference to communities, all within a supportive and agile working environment.

Your new role
You will play a key role in delivering expert legal advice on a wide range of property matters, including urban redevelopment, acquisitions, regeneration schemes, and public-private partnerships. The role also includes crossover work in planning law and governance, with opportunities to advise senior leaders and contribute to major strategic projects.
Depending on your experience, you may also supervise junior team members, lead on complex cases, and act as deputy to the Head of Law when required.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Drafting and negotiating complex legal agreements
  • Advising on property transactions, compulsory purchase orders, and regeneration schemes
  • Supporting planning-related legal matters
  • Representing the organisation in courts, tribunals, and public inquiries
  • Advising senior managers and elected members
  • Contributing to the development of legal precedents and procedures

What you'll need to succeed
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEX entitled to practise in England and Wales
  • Strong experience in property law, ideally with exposure to planning and regeneration
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Ability to provide clear, practical legal advice to senior stakeholders
  • A proactive, collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement
  • Desirable: experience in local government legal teams and knowledge of planning law

What you'll get in return
  • The opportunity to work on complex, high-impact legal matters
  • A flexible and agile working environment
  • A supportive and inclusive team culture
  • Opportunities for career progression and professional development
  • A role that contributes meaningfully to public service and sustainability goals
