Painter Required – HMP Hull

As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades and support operatives. Hays is seeking to recruit a Painter for HMP Hull. This is an exciting opportunity to work within the prison service and will lead to a permanent position for the right candidate.

Your new role
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Painter to join our team working within HMP Hull, supporting the delivery of the CRED (Creating Responsible Environments) programme. This role plays a key part in improving the prison environment and contributing to rehabilitation outcomes through high-quality maintenance and refurbishment work. Working in a secure environment, you will be responsible for carrying out a range of painting and decorating tasks to a high standard, ensuring all work supports a safe, clean, and respectful environment for staff, residents, and programme delivery.
- Prepare surfaces and carry out painting and decorating work across designated areas within HMP Hull
- Apply a range of finishes including emulsion, gloss, and specialist coatings
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with site regulations and security protocols
- Maintain a clean and organised workspace at all times
- Work collaboratively with site staff, contractors, and programme teams
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including the secure handling of tools and materials.
- Support the overall aims of the CRED programme by contributing to a positive and professional environment
What you'll need to succeed
- Proven experience as a painter/decorator (commercial or public sector experience desirable)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working within a secure custodial environment (training and clearance provided)
- Good communication skills and a professional attitude
- Understanding of health & safety practices in the workplace
You must be able to pass a full prison security clearance and enhanced DBS (if required). Hays and the MOJ are responsible for organising all security clearances and DBS.
You must hold a valid passport or Full Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence at your current address.
You must have proof of National Insurance AND proof of address dated in the past 3 months.
