Site Supervisor Job Available at Secondary School in Bolton

We are seeking a committed, skilled and proactive Site Supervisor to join the team at a Secondary School in Bolton on a permanent basis. This role is essential in ensuring that the school site remains a safe, clean and well‑maintained environment for pupils, staff and visitors. The Site Supervisor will oversee day-to-day site operations, carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs, manage contractors, support cleaning teams, and ensure compliance with statutory health and safety and building regulations.

Salary: £25,583 – £27,254 dependent on experience
Contract: Permanent - Full-time, All-Year-Round
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Monday to Thursday 6.30am - 3pm, Friday 6.30am - 11.30am

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the school site, buildings and grounds are safe, clean and well maintained.
  • Carry out daily maintenance, minor repairs, DIY tasks and pre-planned maintenance.
  • Monitor major works during school holidays and manage contractors on site.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and site supplies; ensure regular inspection and safe use.
  • Oversee cleaning standards and supervise cleaning staff and SMSAs.
  • Open and close the school site, ensuring all buildings are secure.
  • Manage alarms, CCTV checks and report security breaches.
  • Maintain key security and act as keyholder for emergencies.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH, Fire Safety, Asbestos and Legionella regulations.
  • Carry out weekly and monthly checks, including fire alarms, emergency lighting and legionella tests.
  • Maintain the Fire Safety Log, Asbestos Log and Legionella Log.
  • Monitor and maintain heating systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  • Record and report energy consumption (gas, electricity, water).
  • Carry out basic repairs and escalate faults to contractors where necessary.
  • Keep drains, gutters and gullies clear and functioning.
  • Receive deliveries, distribute goods, and assist with movement of furniture and equipment.
  • Set up halls and rooms for meetings, assemblies and events.
  • Oversee cleaners and SMSAs, including organising work routines and supporting training needs.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Experience working in a site supervisor/caretaking role within an education setting
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks.
  • General maintenance and DIY experience.
  • Good communication, literacy and numeracy.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Comfortable working in a busy school setting with children and adults.

Desirable Skills & Experience
  • ICT skills (email, reporting).
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Qualified tradesperson (e.g., plumbing, electrics, joinery).
