Hays are now looking for a Site Reliability Engineer for one of our local clients.


  • 2-3 days a week in Herefordshire

  • Circa £450 per day, Outside IR35

  • 6 month initial contract

  • Must currently be SC or DV Cleared

The Site Reliability Engineer to support and improve the reliability and performance of our clients’ digital platforms. You’ll work alongside engineering and operational teams to help design, operate and evolve resilient systems that meet demanding availability and performance expectations.

The Role
  • Support the design, operation and continuous improvement of infrastructure across client environments
  • Work with software engineering teams to improve reliability, scalability and performance of client‑owned services
  • Partner with operational and support teams to automate manual work and reduce operational toil
  • Improve monitoring, alerting and observability to identify and resolve issues before they impact end users
  • Support client development and test environments to enable consistent, high‑quality delivery
  • Contribute to identifying capacity, performance and reliability risks and driving remediation activities
  • Evaluate tools, platforms and approaches to support informed technical decisions
  • Develop a strong understanding of differing client environments, platforms and delivery models

Skills & Experience Required
  • Strong experience with configuration management tools, with Ansible required (Chef or similar beneficial)
  • Experience defining and managing infrastructure using Terraform
  • Hands-on experience with container technologies and orchestration platforms (e.g. Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker Swarm)
  • Experience building, operating or supporting CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins or equivalent
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools including Prometheus, Grafana or InfluxDB
  • Exposure to event‑driven or message‑based architectures (e.g. RabbitMQ or other AMQP solutions)
  • Good understanding of relational databases and SQL
  • Confident working in Linux environments, including administration and shell scripting
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and security protocols
  • Experience working with cloud platforms, ideally including compute, storage, databases and serverless services
